  • Tulip Time Volunteers

    Here's a great opportunity to network with the Holland Rotary and assist with Tulip Time.  Volunteers are needed to assist with taking tickets for the bleacher seats, showing guests to their seats, and general crowd control.  

    They need assistance for all three parades from 12-3pm: 
    Wed. May 8, Thrs. May 9, and Sat. May 11.

  • Davenport University Announces New Community Leader Scholarship

    Davenport University wants to recognize you as an up-and-coming leader in your organization and community! Beginning Fall 2012, students admitted to Davenport University who are employed at a company that is a member in good standing of a Chamber of Commerce in Michigan may qualify for our new Community Leader Scholarship!

    Eligible students can receive up to $1,500 annually based on the number of credit hours taken as follows:
    • Students enrolled in 6 credits per semester will receive $750 per semester up to the annual limit. Students enrolled in less than six credits per semester will receive $375 per semester.
    • The Community Leader Scholarship can be combined with other qualifying Davenport University discounts and scholarships, except for students who are eligible for the Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce discount.
    • The scholarship may be used toward undergraduate or graduate classes.
    • Davenport University offers degrees in Business, Technology and Health.

  • Rotary Group Study Exchange

    The Rotary is offering Holland Young Professionals a unique opportunity to learn about how your industry works in a different country. The Rotary Foundation’s Group Study Exchange (GSE) program is a vocational exchange opportunity for professionals between the ages of 25 and 40 who are in the early stages of their careers. For four weeks (April 6th - May 5th), spend time in the Netherlands experiencing the host country's culture and institutions, observe how their vocations are practiced abroad, develop personal and professional relationships, and exchange ideas.   • HYP Committees

    Dear HYP Members

    I wanted to take a moment and reach out to you before the weekend.  Holland Young Professionals is looking to fill a few places on the Board and on our Committees.  Each year your leadership is elected and transitions to and from various roles.  The HYP Board is made up of a President, Past President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Committee Chairs.  

    As I move into the role of Past President, Sarah Lilly steps up to President, Emily Newhouse is your new Vice President, Molly Phan Secretary, Bob Drexler Treasurer.  Our Committee Chairs are currently Emily Newhouse as the Professional Development Chair, Johnna Van Ness as our Membership Chair, Lacie Perkins our Events Chair, and Jason Cash is our Marketing Chair.

    Right now we are asking you to think about what your interests are, whether or not you would like to get more involved in the leadership of Holland Young Professionals and if you would like to serve on a committee or even chair a committee and serve on the Board of Directors.  Take some time over the weekend and think about the opportunity.  Immediate seats on committees are available, and we are currently seeking out a Chair Person for the Professional Development Committee which is also a Board level responsibility.  If you have interest email me at moegema@greenridge.com or call at 616.318.9313.  We will begin interviewing for Chair positions in August.  Serving on the Board or on a committee does require that you are a Contributing Member.

  • Demolition Saturday

    Dear members,

    This Saturday Holland Young Professionals will be working with Hope College Business Students on a Demolition project for Lakeshore Habitat for Humanity.  The day will begin on the job site at 8:30am-12pm.  Once our work is complete Hope College will be providing a luncheon for us at the Habitat Affiliate Office with Habitat's Executive Director Jack Zandstra.  Right now we have 14 people signed up for this event which is a great size for a project like this but I would love to see 20.  If you have any interest in learning more about Habitat for Humanity, are looking to get a service project in before the end of the year, or just would like to break something right now then sign up for this opportunity today by clicking HERE (note registration will be closed after 5pm today).

  • AMA West Michigan Event - "Marketing Across the Digital Divide"

    Join HYP and AMA-West Michigan on Tuesday, September 13th for the AMA's 2011-2012 season kick off! We have a great line up of local, national and international experts who will present on relevant marketing-related issues. 

    Scott Meyer, the co-founder of 9 Clouds will discuss Marketing Across the Digital Divide.

    Many businesses’ online marketing efforts focus on the digitally literate and early adopters. However, there remains a larger percentage of the consuming public that struggles to keep up with advances undefined still learning to use basic technologies like text messaging or lacking consistent access to the Internet altogether. The central question for marketers seeking to tap the potential of this segment becomes one of how to best connect across the digital divide. Learning how to effectively communicate with both audiences is essential for successful marketing and business development experience.

    With entertaining regional insights and case studies from diverse audiences such as local South Dakotan hamburger shops and flaxseed farmers all the way to the European Union, this session will show technologies and marketing techniques that work for late adopters and that every business should know how to use.

    What besides being HYP do you like to do (Hobbies)?

    I enjoy spending time with my family, and enjoying the house my wife and I purchased last year.  I enjoy mostly all sports, being outdoors, and trying to maintain an active lifestyle. 

     

    What do you like best about HYP, or if you’re a new member, what drew you to HYP? 

    HYP provides me with an opportunity to work and grow with other professionals in the Holland area. 

     

    Okay, here’s one just for fun.  If you could have a super power, what would it be, and why? 

    To fly.  Our trips back to the Chicago area to visit family wouldn’t take that long then.
