HYP Community Passport


Join us in exploring our wonderful Holland/Zeeland community by participating in HYP’s Community Passport!

This passport is your ticket to getting connected with the community and understanding it at a deeper level. As with any travel, your journey is as important as your destination. This passport was created as a six-week adventure that is focused on getting you out and experiencing our community.

Rules of the Passport

To complete this passport:

  1. Follow beHYP on social media (links below)

  2. Check back each week to fulfill your activity

  3. Collect “activity stamps” by uploading content or answering questions as described in each section

  4. Finish all 6 activities and receive a free beHYP t-shirt!

Parks+%26+Rec

Activity 1: Parks & Rec

Get outside and explore a natural area by visiting one of our local parks or nature preserves.

Then upload a picture of your exploration!

Destination ideas: Ottawa County Parks, City of Holland Parks, ODC Network locations, City of Zeeland Parks, dog parks, the list goes on.

Activity 2: Learn about a Non-profit

We are blessed with numerous non-profits in West Michigan. This week research a local non-profit of you choosing.

Write a short description of a local non-profit, including the mission and a recent activity/accomplishment completed by your chosen non-profit.

Suggestion ideas: Community Action House, Ben’s Hope, Holland Rescue Mission, Habitat for Humanity and more!

Activity 3: Perform a Charitable Act

We can all agree this world needs some more kindness, we are encouraging you to do at least one nice charitable act this week. Your act of kindness could be with a local organization or something you think of on your own.

Upload a photo performing your charitable act.

Acts of Kindness Ideas: buy a coffee for a stranger, build a community box for Community Action House, donate blood, give West Coast Cash to an unsuspecting neighbor, tip extra while out, donate to a local non-profit.

Activity 4: Take it Downtown

We have two beautiful downtown areas that offer an abundance of shops, cafes, and restaurants. Take a day (morning or afternoon) explore downtown Holland or Zeeland. If you aren’t able to make it downtown, write a short story or itinerary checklist of your ideal downtown experience. share a short description of your downtown experience.

Share a photo of your downtown adventure or write your checklist/short story.

Adventure Ideas: Grab a coffee and stroll downtown, stop by the farmers market, dine at a local restaurant or grab take out and head to a local green space for a picnic meal.

Activity 5: Nerd Out

The mission of Holland is to “maximize livability” through creating “a vibrant, world-class community in a beautiful lakefront environment where people work together, celebrate community, and realize dreams".” Dig into the City of Holland’s website to find the webpages/documents on the checklist below.

Choose the document/webpage that interested you the most.

Activity 6: Energy/Sustainability

Learn about the Holland area’s sustainability focuses and visit one of the local energy sources. Organizations like Holland BPW’s Energy Park, Living Sustainably Along the Lakeshore, and Nature-rich Community (ODC Network) are putting forth a lot of work in establishing features for sustainability.

Visit the Holland Energy Park, Windmill Island, or Outdoor Discovery Center to learn more about sustainable energy practices.

Then share a picture and tell us what you learned.
